About the Film

PAIN AND PREJUDICE is a feature documentary exploring the systemic failures that shape how women’s pain is understood, diagnosed and treated. Through personal stories, expert perspectives and investigative storytelling, the film exposes the medical biases that have left generations of women suffering without answers.

Inspired by Gabrielle Jackson’s book Pain and Prejudice, the film begins with Leah Filley’s journey through more than 25 years of chronic pain. As Leah investigates the medical systems that have repeatedly failed her and so many others, she uncovers a broader story of medical misogyny, gender bias in research and the devastating consequences of not being believed.

From endometriosis and pelvic pain to other chronic and often invisible conditions, PAIN AND PREJUDICE asks why women continue to face barriers to diagnosis, treatment and compassionate care. It amplifies the voices of those who have been dismissed, misdiagnosed or left to navigate the healthcare system alone, while exploring what meaningful change could look like.

Rooted in lived experience and years of research, the film is a call for greater accountability, better medical education and a healthcare system that takes women’s pain seriously.

Our mission is simple: to make it harder for women to be ignored, and easier for them to be heard.

Beyond the Screen

PAIN AND PREJUDICE is more than a film. It is an opportunity to challenge entrenched assumptions, amplify the voices of people whose pain has been dismissed and encourage lasting change in healthcare.

Through theatrical screenings, educational engagement, community partnerships and advocacy, we aim to bring this conversation into spaces where it can make a difference.

Because being heard should never be a privilege. It should be the starting point of care.
